Quick answer: For CLAT critical reasoning, identify the conclusion, the evidence and the gap between them before reading the options. A strengthening option supports the link; a weakening option attacks it. Confirm the current pattern on consortiumofnlus.ac.in.

Step 1: Mark the conclusion

Ask what the author wants you to accept. Words like "therefore" or "so" often signal it.

Step 2: Mark the evidence

Separate the facts offered from the claim they support.

Step 3: Name the gap

State in a few words what must be true for the evidence to prove the conclusion. That is usually the assumption.

Step 4: Test options against the gap

Reject options that are true but irrelevant, or that go beyond the passage. See assumption vs inference examples.
