Quick answer: Fix a daily four-part routine — reading, legal aptitude, reasoning and general knowledge — take one timed test every week, and spend as long reviewing each test as you spent taking it. That structure is what makes home preparation work.

A daily routine that holds

Slot Work Time
Morning Newspaper reading and notes 40 min
Midday Legal aptitude practice 45 min
Evening Reasoning or English 45 min
Night General knowledge revision 30 min

Weekly structure

Six days of the routine, one day for a full timed paper with review. Do not skip the review; it is where the marks come from.

The revision system

Keep three notebooks: current affairs sheets, legal aptitude conditions and errors, and a mistake log for reasoning. Revise the mistake log every Sunday. Most candidates repeat the same five errors until they see them written down.

Previous-year papers

Solve them under exam conditions rather than as reading material. After each paper, classify wrong answers into misreading, missing knowledge and time pressure, then repair the biggest group first.

Staying honest without a classroom

  • Fix start times, not just durations.
  • Keep the phone out of the room during timed practice.
  • Score every test and record it in one place.
  • Compare to your own previous scores, not to other candidates.

Verify the syllabus

Confirm the notified outline on the official UGLAW portal or the official PGLAW portal for the three-year route.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I crack the PU law entrance with self-study?

Yes, if you follow a fixed daily routine, take regular timed tests and review every test carefully. Self-study fails most often because of irregular testing, not weak material.

How many hours a day are needed?

Three to four focused hours a day over six months is a realistic target for a Class 12 student, with more in the final month.

Which resources should a self-study candidate use?

One daily newspaper, one standard general knowledge compilation, basic legal aptitude material, previous-year papers and a timed test series.

How often should I take mock tests?

One full test a week from the midpoint of preparation, increasing to two in the final month.
