How the two differ in character
The Panjab University law entrance includes a meaningful share of direct questions on general knowledge, legal awareness, English and reasoning. CLAT builds every question on a passage. That difference changes practice, not the foundation.
What is common
- English comprehension and vocabulary
- Legal aptitude and principle application
- Logical and analytical reasoning
- Current affairs of the past year
- Timed test temperament
What needs separate work
For the PU route, build recall: static general knowledge, legal terms, Indian polity and history basics. For CLAT, build stamina: two hours of continuous passage reading without accuracy loss.
A combined weekly plan
- Monday to Friday: one hour shared skills, thirty minutes news notes.
- Saturday: one full CLAT-style mock.
- Sunday: one PU-style paper with a knowledge-recall section.
Choosing where to focus
If you live in or near Chandigarh and value the Panjab University campus route, weight your effort there while keeping CLAT alive as a second option. If a national law university is the priority, invert the weighting. Neither decision requires abandoning the other exam.

Frequently Asked Questions
Should I prepare for both PU Law entrance and CLAT?
Yes, in most cases. The core skills overlap, so one preparation base can serve both, with separate practice for each paper's style and the general knowledge weight in the PU paper.
Is the PU law entrance easier than CLAT?
They are different rather than simply easier or harder. The PU paper carries more direct knowledge-based questions, while CLAT is fully passage based.
Which one has more seats?
CLAT covers several participating national law universities, while the PU route covers Panjab University's own programmes. Seat details must be checked in the current official prospectus.
Where do I verify PU law entrance details?
On the official Panjab University UGLAW portal for the five-year programme and the PGLAW portal for the three-year LL.B.
